Online Guitar Lessons

We reviewed close to 50 different guitar lessons online. The 50 we reviewed were purchased. We also reviewed alot of the free lessons. All I can say is you do get what you pay for .There's just so many sites offering lessons it's very overwhelming. We did encounter a couple who wouldn't refund our money as they guaranteed.I should clarify one thing here...when I say online guitar lessons, that means they are not available in stores and can only be purchased online.

We aren't going to say you can't learn the guitar from some of the google videos or you tube or free sites...but they tend to be very scattered and dissorganized.A couple of the free lesson sites we looked at had songs that showed the diagram of the chords and the actual chord name above it....well the diagram was correct but the chord name was wrong on every one.Not even transposed correctly. The ironic thing was they had a comment box and several people said how great they thought it was.Of course I put my comment in there mentioning the mistake and last time I checked it still hadn't been changed. So you can see how that would be confusing to a student trying to learn guitar.

If you are taking or planning on taking lessons most of the initial learning process is redundant, repetititous practice of scales and chords.Patience is key when learning guitar. Its important you learn correctly. So when you go to a site and see a guy in front of a webcam with a flying vee guitar, jumping up and down using just the neck pickup and the gain on his amp at 10,offering guitar lessons...I would think twice.

That being said there are some pretty good free lessons sites that do a pretty good job at providing decent instruction but they do tend to be a little scattered and don't really provide a complete course.

Each one of these guitar lessons that we recommend were purchased, reviewed and also returned in order to be sure they stood up to their money back guarantee

The money back guarantee was a priority, although all the online guitar lessons were examined with content and quality in mind. There were a few other online guitar courses and lessons we would highly recommend if it wasn't for the price. They were excellent guitar lessons but the price was extremely out of proportion. We felt they needed to be affordable in the beginner guitar lessons category.

Don't expect to learn it overnight like some courses will claim you can do.It doesn't happen like that. There's courses out there that claim they can have you playing in 3 days!! No doubt you may be able to learn a few chords in that time, but I wouldn't waste your time or money on those!

A personnel instructor is an option but keep in mind you are their income and they get paid by the hour or whatever the case may be.I had a couple different instructors at a young age and realized I wasn't learning anything or what I wanted.Of course we didn't have internet or dvds then.

We would also suggest when purchasing online guitar lessons to find one that offers online student support in case you have any problems. The guitar lessons we recommend below have that included in their courses. We did ask questions and they were pretty quick with providing us with an answer.

If your not familiar with Guitar Tablature its an easy and quick way to learn to read music. The online guitar lessons we reviewed below will teach you how to do this along with reading traditional notation music.Keep in mind Guitar Tab does have certain limitations but can be a quick and easy way to start.

Choosing a guitar for a beginner is just as important in the learning process as the lessons are.You really don't need expensive equipment if your a beginner.Having your guitar setup to be playable is important though.

These online guitar lessons vary a little in price and are slightly formatted differently but are by far better than some of the junk we've seen being offered. There are some videos you can preview on each of these courses websites to get an idea of what the lessons are about.A couple of the better ones we looked at are listed below.

These are online guitar lessons that can be purchased.Just keep in mind when looking for guitar lessons online what a huge market it is and every one and their brother thinks they should be giving guitar lessons. So be wise grasshopper!!

Guitar Learning System

 Guitar Tricks
This was our number 2 pick .
This actually would have been our Number one pick if it wasn't for the fact that the guitar lessons require a computer.
The reason for this is there's so many and so much content, that to put it all on dvd's would be overwhelming. If you don't mind learning and following the guitar lessons on a computer then I would say this is a better choice, although we didn't care for some of the instructors,on the other hand some we thought were very good natural teachers. Its just a personnel preference but you do have the option of choosing which lessons and teacher you prefer.
Guitar Tricks will even take you through advanced music therory if your interested.

There are just so many lessons included here, and by so many I mean thousands of guitar lessons,so if you dont't like a particular instructor or lesson you can move on to another one.
These guitar lessons are a little different than some in that you can choose which lessons and which style you'd like to learn .
They have quite a few different instructors also.Something like 45 different instructors. Some of them are music professors, from Berkeley, and they are adding new ones all the time.

They have it set up so you pay a monthly fee of $14.95 for access to all the lessons,so your not out alot of money initially.

Believe me there's alot of lessons included in the program and some are very good quality.Theres a video on their website that will give you a better idea of what its all about. They also have preview videos on some of the different guitar lessons and who the instructor is.

They offer around 30 free guitar lessons to give you a chance to see what their all about.

We purchased and reviewed quite a few of the lessons but didn't go through all of them...theres just so many guitar lessons. Its definitely worth checking out.

The Guitar Tricks Curriculum includes eight interconnected lessons with a total of 3,000+ lessons. This system provides a full step by step program to take you from "How do I hold a pick?" to advanced intermediate guitar in three top styles: Blues, Country and Rock.

The Guitar Tricks Jam Station has over 200 professional backing tracks(some sound like a techno nerd made them) but it is a quick way to learn to improvise in a wide variety of musical styles and  it really does help with your timing. You can learn all the chords or soloing techniques in the world but if you can't play or jam along with someone else you'll probablly be lost when you do decide to.You'd be surprised how many people don't learn this from the beginning. It is a very good learning tool.

"Even the most experienced guitarists need to freshen up on the basics from time to time. Guitar Tricks provides a solid base of reference items to help guitarists push through the lessons and tutorials - everything from high-level music theory to specifics such as hammer-on exercises and hybrid picking".Lots of video! Some free Lessons also.Full 60 day unconditional money back guarantee.

There are a lot of online guitar courses coming out that attempt to allow you to take guitar lessons from your computer.
The majority of online guitar lessons were pretty much worthless, but Jamorama was an exception.

The instruction was pretty good, and the price is low.

They offer the online version where you see the lessons on your computer
or for a little price increase will ship the lessons on DVDs and printed material to your home.

We had the lessons shipped to us,and were quite pleased with it.
Jamorama Is a good guitar course and definitely worth looking at.
They also offer an 8 week 100% money back guarantee.
